Paste or type any text and hear it read out loud in your browser. Pick a voice, set the speed and pitch, and press play β perfect for proofreading your own writing or listening on the go.
Type, paste, or use the sample text button to load an example paragraph.
Choose from the voices your browser offers, then adjust the speed and pitch sliders to taste.
Pause, resume or stop at any time. Long texts are read in sentence-sized chunks so playback doesn't cut out part-way through.
Hearing a blog post read aloud is one of the fastest ways to catch clumsy sentences, missing words and punctuation problems that your eyes skim over. Many writers proofread with text to speech before publishing β if it sounds awkward spoken, it usually reads awkwardly too.
No β and we'd rather be upfront about that than pretend otherwise. The browser's built-in speech feature can play audio out loud, but it gives web pages no way to save that audio as a file. If you need a downloadable voiceover file, you'll need a dedicated text-to-speech service instead.
Because the voices belong to your browser and operating system, not to this page. A Windows laptop, an iPhone and an Android phone each offer their own set, and installing extra voices in your system settings can add more here too.
This tool itself never uploads or stores your text. Most voices generate the speech right on your device; a few (notably some desktop Chrome voices) are generated online by the browser maker's servers, so whether text leaves your device depends on the voice you choose.
Some browsers cut off very long passages mid-sentence. To keep playback reliable, this reader quietly splits your text at sentence boundaries (about 200 characters at a time) and plays the pieces back to back, so the reading sounds continuous.
Any language your device has a voice for. If a voice for your language is installed, it will appear in the voice list above with its language shown next to it.
